Getting a Job with Facial Piercings

In a way, facial piercings are like visible tattoos in the employment field. Most employers just don't like them.
Generally, employers will allow ear lobe piercings as long as they are not excessive or large. For example, my employer, and every employer that I've ever had (which amounts to three total), has a rule that women can have two lobe piercings per ear and men can have one. Employees are not allowed to have facial piercings or any other visible piercings besides the 1-2 lobe piercings.
Because I have 5 in one ear and 6 in the other, I have to cover my ears with my hair, otherwise I have to remove the jewelry.
There are some employers that are more lenient and there are some bosses who will let you get by with more piercings than the company allows, but generally when you're in a big meeting or important people are coming in, piercings have to be removed to match company policy.
Even with that said, there aren't many companies that allow facial piercings, such as tongue, nose, eyebrow, lip, etc. Generally these piercings have to be removed even if you're working at a retail store. I have seen facial piercings allowed by employees at Hot Topic and Spencers, but other than that none.
When interviewing for a job, it's a good idea that you remove any visible piercings, especially if you're not 100% sure of company policy. By removing your jewelry, you may seem like a better candidate. Some people just can't get past the metal, even if your resume and interview is perfect.
When at your interview, you may want to ask about the company's piercing policy just so that you know and are aware of the policy.
If you need to, it's a good idea that you purchase retainers for your piercings. These will hold the hole while you're not wearing the jewelry. You don't want to use these plastic retainers while you're still healing the piercing, but once the piercing has fully healed, they are fine.
The rules will vary per locale and company, so it's a good idea that you know what your company's policies are and what your are allowed to get away with before you get a new piercing or before wearing all of your jewelry to work.
