Signs of an Infected Belly Button Piercing

August 4th 2010 13:57
Belly button piercings are one of the more popular types of piercings, and generally they are pretty easy to care for, but that doesn't mean that they don't reject or get infected, as that's pretty common as well.

Remember that when you first get a new piercing, it is normal for it to be red, swollen, and painful. So, don't get alarmed just yet. If the discomfort and swelling remain or worsen, then it's time to worry. Don't worry if you are experiencing leakage, as that is normal healing, especially if it's just a clear or light yellow, but if the leakage is a dark yellow or green color, then worry, as this is puss and infection.

The basic signs of a belly button infection include:

* Pain
* Swelling
* Redness
* Puss
* Fever
* Odor

If you have any of these signs for a prolonged period of time, you will need to treat the piercing as though it is infected. Do not remove the jewelry, and clean it as though it is a new piercing.

As part of fashion, some of us particularly teens want belly button piercing. Belly button is quite sensitive, and it consists of some unknown species, which many of us are unaware of it. Belly buttons could be sexy and ticklish. They may also be the unfortunate bastard in a basket remaining on the front doorstep of your personal grooming regimen. Whether you take care of it or lay it low, experts at the Belly button Biodiversity project would like you to pay attention to your navel, especially the microbes that could lie in wait. Your belly button bacteria represent important advances in divergent evolution. The proof is here: New belly button bacteria furthers study of evolution.

The same thing happened to me when I had that ring and I eventually had to take it out when it started turning black. I think the problem is that the bacteria gets in when you turn the ring to clean it. After about 10 years (now 26) I recently got it repeirced and now its fine. Also her pants look REALLY tight and that obviously will irritate the piercing. Good luck!
