Ear Cropping

Ok this one is by far my favorite.... ha not really. It's a subject that I am still undecided upon when regards to dogs, as my dog training instincts says, "it removes so many vital communication skills between dogs," but my personal side says, "some dogs look really cool with cropped ears." In dogs, the process is meant to make the ear stand up, and is pretty popular amongst Boxers, American Pit Bull Terriers, American Staffordshire Terriers, and Great Danes, just to name a few breeds.
But, you can pretty much guarantee that I'm not talking about dogs here. Yes, people get their ears cropped, as well. It's a rather interesting concept, and very similar to that of dog ear cropping.
Basically, part of the ear cartlage is removed from the ear. Where in dogs, as mentioned above, ear cropping is meant to make the ear stand upright, but in humans it is purely to reshape the ear.
The process of cropping a human ear basically entails removing the cartlage with a scalpel and then sealed with electrocautery or sutures.
You want to make sure that you take care of the healing crop, but for the most part the two surfaces will heal together due to the tissue death between the two pieces of skin tissue.
Risks of ear cropping in humans can include:
* Ear collapse
* Infection
