Hand Web Piercing
December 26th 2008 20:02
This one's pretty simple, a hand web piercing is that in which the webbing between the fingers is pierced. Typically, hand web piercings are through the thumb and forefinger, but it't not uncommon for the piercing to be in-between the other fingers as well.
Most of the time, hand web piercings are pierced using CBRs, but again, there are people who use barbells for their hand web piercing.
The hand web piercing is not dangerous except for the danger of getting a piercing. The hand web piercing is not going to cause your hand to fall off, nor is it going to cause you to lose a finger. The main risks of hand web piercings is if the piercing is still fresh and healing and comes into contact with bacteria, which is common for most piercings but more a risk with your hands. You just want to make sure that you keep your piercing CLEAN!
You want to try to soak the hand in saline or sea-salt at least once, but preferrably twice for the first 2 weeks after getting the piercing.
The hand web piercing is typically a temporary piercing, but if you want to reduce your rejection risks, you want to make sure that the jewelry is placed in an area of the webbing that will reduce movement. Basically, the piercer, needs to put the jewelry so that it doesn't really move, so that the irritation at the exit holes is reduced as much as possible.
You should also be careful of moving the surrounding fingers, as you may notice by moving the other fingers, you can irritate the exit holes of the web piercing on that hand.
