Earlobe Removal

November 27th 2008 12:04

Earlobe removal is another form of ear shaping that involves the partial or full removal of the earlobe. There are a few different methods that one could perform in order to successfully remove the earlobe, but remember that the safest method is always to do so under a professional's supervision.

There are actually two reasons as to why a person would remove an earlobe. 1) To correct a streteched earlobe piercing that the person no longer wants. 2) To change the shape of the ear. There are other reasons, but these are the main two.

For the most part an earlobe removal process is either going to be clamp and cut (where tissue is clamped and cut) or just cut off and sutured and/or cauterized. Either process is not a painless one, which is why an anethetic may be used, which in turn can cause legal concerns if the anesthetic is used illegally and without a license.

Dianna, Ruby, Tracy, and Louie, I agree painful to say the least.

Wilson, I agree with you. I wouldn't cut off my earlobe even if I decided that I didn't want my stretched lobes anymore. I'm sorry but you stretch 'em, you live with 'em.

Cheryl, again I totally agree that mister Van Gogh has some competition here.

Why stop at earlobes? Why not remove little toes? In fact, that reminds me ... I have a post I want to do on people who are compelled to remove perfectly healthy limbs.

The things people do - I give up on asking why

ZOMG. That reminds me of a Stephen King story where the protagonist is a Doctor and he gets shipwrecked on a deserted island with 100 pounds of heroine, and starts removing and eating body parts.

Probably my fave Stephen King short story: "Survivor Type" ... would love someone to make a movie of it!

I dont know why, but I find this disturbing?

Is there any reasoning with it?

Do different ears mean different things?

you know, like left ear means this and right ear means that.

Bryn, I actually have plans on a post for amputation, as well. It's definitely different.

Waysouth, I haven't read that one. Which one is that?

Lilla, the reason are typically just going to be a person who has stretched their lobe to the point that it won't shrink back, so they get it removed. That or just to change the shape of the ear. There's no thing different with one ear or the other. That's all societal things. A man or woman can have either ear pierced and it mean nothing.

Amy, I wish I could tell you why other than the just because. Ha. Even to correct an overly stretched piercing that you no longer want, it's ridiculous.

I heard many years ago about peoples earlobes falling off because of too much piercing but removing it deliberately??

I'm with Lilla on this one - I too find it disturbing.

I've often been tempted to cut a full ear off, and staple it to my shoulder so I can hear what people are saying about me behind my back.

Hello fellow wrimo's!

Even though it's late, feel free to add me! I'm A_Solana on wrimo!

And all I have to say is...

WHY, GOD, WHY?! The drama hasn't left me...

Maybe we can glue it back on?

Janet, I've heard of ear complications, but not necessarily the whole earlobe falling off due to too many piercings. It wouldn't just fall off, but need to be removed if the piercings were causing major injection and whatnot.

Lady, that would be quite interesting. Definitely send me pictures, and I'll write a post about it

Anonymous, I'm sure there is a small period of time where it could be stitched back on, but for the most part, people who get it removed, prefer it that way.
