One of the most common piercing that you'll find among both men and women will be the ear lobe piercing. Although, they're isn't anything special about a simple earlobe piercing, it can be both elegant and mysterious all in the same, if you wear it right, of course.
In many cases, parents have their baby daughter's ears pierced at earlier ages. Some find this cruel, but it's actually a common practice. Many of these parents pack up their daughter and take her to the mall to get small ear studs shoved through her earlobes via a piercing gun...
Big mistake, but a common one...
It is actually much better to have any piercing performed with sterilized, disposable needles versus a piercing gun. But, at the same time, it can be hard to find a tattoo shop who will pierce a young child's ears with hollow needles. In some cases, you can find a medical practitioner who will pierce the child's ears.
But, anyway... The biggest myth about ear piercings especially among men, is that one side means homosexual, whereas the other means heterosexual, and in some cases both sides may mean bi-sexual... In reality, whichever ear you want your piercing, if not both, is up to you. There is no secret meaning behind one side or the other.

The second peircings I had done was by my mum with a block of ice a cork and a big arse darning needle. No infection and healed quickly. Go figure.
At least my navel peircing was done properly!
