Cold Branding

Cold branding, or freeze branding, is very rare and almost unheard of among modificationists. Typically, the process is one that ranchers use to brand their cattle, as it has minimal damage and any hair that grows from the brand is white, making the brand permanent and the cattle easy to identify.
Only a small number of people have actually experimented with cold branding. Liquid nitrogen is used on some material, typically a metal, and placed on the skin in order to create the brand.
The Procedure
Cold branding is pretty similar to strike branding, except instead of immersing the iron into heat, the iron is dipped in liquid nitrogen (or some other cooling agent or solution).
The iron is then pressed to the skin for a period of time determined by the thickness of the skin. The thicker the skin, the longer the iron needs to be on the skin. For people, I would assume the amount of time the iron needs to be on the skin is pretty short, when compared to cold branding a cow, which can be anywhere from 30 seconds to a full minute.
If the cold brand has been done properly, when the iron is removed, there will be an indent of the shape, and within 5 to 15 minutes it will level with the surrounding skin and then swell upwards.
If the brand is left too long, no hair will grow back, but at the optimal time, the hair will grow back, but it will grow back white.

The are mroe of a temp branding and will last from about 24 hours to a year depending on the length of time the brand is left on teh skin and how cold it was allowed to get.
