What have we come to? Tattoos in baseball now a problem
September 21st 2008 17:37
So on my way to blog about something competely different, my homepage (Yahoo) was featuring an article about the Phillies forcing Bret Myers, the starter pitcher to cover his left forearm tattoo.
Seriously!?
And how is covering the tattoo going to affect how he throws the ball or the hitter hits the ball?
Apparently, Charlie Manual, the Phillies manager, noticed that the Marlins' first and third base coaches were straying outside of their respective boxes, and worried that they were going to attempt to steal signs, Manuel spoke with the umps and asked them to keep the coaches within their coaching boxes. And, to get back at the Phillies, the Marlins' coach requested that the umps force Myers to cover his tattoo becuase it was a distraction to their hitters..
COME ON!
I'll be the first to admit, I know the bare basics about playing baseball, but truly a tattoo going to distract the hitter from the flying ball coming right at their body? I highly doubt it.
Myers has had the tattoo for about 3 and a half years of being in the big leagues, and now they decide to have him cover it.. Be adults here people
